This is Upe Rathene – a Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka. The smile he is wearing here has become a symbol of Sri Lanka for me, simply because most people, if not all, wear a similar one when you talk to them or when you pass by. Upe and I talked about several religions, the beauty of Sri Lanka, the life of a monk, how he joined the temple when he was only 7 years old… When I asked him ‘so, what is you personal spiritual goal?’, his response was simple. Just to be here. Just that. He said that with the same awesome smile.
