Sri Lanka has loads of wildlife to offer for those that are willing to get up early. For this image, we got up around 5 AM to jump into our safari jeeps – we found this wild water buffalo relaxing at a huge lake. It does look like he is smiling, which is of course only due to our human need to associate human-like features and behaviors with animals. Either way, only after taking the photo I saw the wound on one of the horns. I did not see what happened – maybe rivalry? An infection gone bad? Who knows, but whatever the cause, he deserved the rest.
